What We Do

At the Modelli Academy we do one thing: Teach students. We exist to show your son or daughter fresh, innovative ways to learn. We help children of all ages do better in school by laying the groundwork for them to think more effectively.
What Makes the Academy Different?
From years of working in public education, we know the strengths and weaknesses of schools. A primary weakness is class size. In a large class a child may feel lost. So at Modelli we offer what most schools cannot: much more individual attention.
A child can fail simply from lack of proper guidance. Without close supervision in class, mistakes often go uncorrected. Some teachers might not correct a student at all. Such neglect can cause ingrained errors and result in serious learning problems.
At Modelli we step in immediately when mistakes occur. Routinely fixing errors helps children learn better. Waiting can make mistakes difficult to reverse. With a Modelli teacher, learning errors simply become tools for improving a child's education.
Another difference is that most of the Modelli methods are not used in schools. Our innovative methods were devised by the Academy's founder, Gary Lee. After years of teaching students, he noticed an element common to many subjects: certain inherent patterns. By understanding these patterns, his students learned better.
Focusing on patterns forms the basis of our approach at the Modelli Learning Academy. Once patterns in a subject are pointed out, students usually grasp concepts more easily and gain greater knowledge.
What Will My Child Gain?
Teaching at Modelli is thorough. Our instruction allows students to fully master skills. New methods become so familiar that students often utilize them without realizing it. Students can also apply Modelli techniques to what they already know, enabling them to use the Modelli way in school.
Perhaps of greatest importance, we offer your child the opportunity to develop confidence in his or her ability to learn.
Should My Child Have an Individual Tutor?
Small group or individual tutoring depends on need. There are students who do better one on one. Most benefit more from working in a small group.
We find small groups offer students definite advantages. Some children find a crowded classroom environment is not conducive to learning. At the Academy we teach children in a warm, comfortable, cheerful setting. Small groups support those qualities. Children like working with peers and gain by observing others learn.
Equally significant, small groups generally ease anxiety, increase self-assurance, and allow a child to be comfortable without resistance. Also, the small group fee costs less.
